The Canton athletic program was well represented in Austin May 12 with three different athletes, Hannah Cade, Preston Yarber and Jaxson Hubble, qualifying to compete at this year’s Class 4A State Track and Field Meet May 12-13.

All three would acquit themselves well, putting together strong performances against some of the state’s best athletes.

Jaxson Hubble posted the highest finish of any county athlete, placing third overall in the seated shot put with a throw of 22’06”.

Ke’Sean Paire of Woodville won first overall at the meet with a throw of 28’2” and Weatherton Cason of Henderson placed second with a throw of 22’10.75”. Hubble was the lone freshman to place in the top-six of the event.

Hannah Cade, a bronze medalist at the 2021 State Track and Field Meet, narrowly missed out on another by finishing fifth overall in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 14.73.

Leah Anderson of Midlothian Heritage won first with a time of 13.96, followed by Taylor McFarland of Godley with a time of 14.31, Kalani Lawson of Fort Worth Dunbar with a time of 14.45 and Sarah Runyon of Argyle with a time of 14.52.

Preston Yarber rounded out the list of Canton competitors, placing eighth overall in the discus with a throw of 146-06.

Rylan Smart of Sanger won first overall with a throw of 173’3”, followed by Andrew Huff of Stafford with a throw of 171’11” and Landon Russell of Mineral Wells with a throw of 164’.
