1955-2023

A memorial service was held for Judy Heard Whatley, Oct. 12, 2023, in Goliad, Texas.

Judy passed away Oct. 1, 2023, surrounded by her family. Judy is the daughter of the late Martha and J.Y. Heard of Canton.

Judy grew up in Canton and graduated in 1974. While in high school, Judy excelled in sports lettering every year in basketball and track. As a freshman, she went to the state track tournament in the discus.

After graduating from Canton High School, she attended Stephen F. Austin State University where she graduated with a degree in Education. After earning her degree, Judy had a successful career teaching and coaching girl’s athletics for over 30 years in Skidmore ISD.

After retirement, Judy enjoyed fishing, gardening, watching the Cowboys and the Chiefs, and most of all, spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-granddaughter.

Judy is proceeded in death by her parents, husband, Don Whatley; son, Don Earl Whatley; and brotherin- law, Tom Whatley.

She is survived by her children; son, Matthew Whatley; daughter, Lauren Whatley; grandson, Kadin Pinson; granddaughter, Makhaiyla Hill; brotherin- law, Bob Whatley; siblings, Martha Heard Parker (Larry), Nancy Heard Tucker (Keith), J. L. Heard (Elisa), Jon Heard (Kristen), Cary Heard (Melody), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
