Joe Bob Burns, 96, of Canton, passed away on Nov. 17, 2023. He was born on Aug. 14, 1927, in Canton to the late Joe Mitchell Burns and Maggie Davis Burns. Joe Bob was a loving father and friend, known for his kind-hearted nature and warm personality.

Throughout his career, Joe Bob worked as a painter and construction worker, dedicating his time and skills to these trades. He was also affectionately known as the “Bird Man” during his years of raising and selling birds at First Monday in Canton.

In his free time, Joe Bob enjoyed various hobbies such as hunting, fishing, playing cards and dice, riding bicycles, and most importantly, spending quality time with his beloved family.

Joe Bob is survived by his wife, Eleta Bennett Burns, and his daughters: Janie Reid (husband, Don), Peggy Black (husband, Tony), Jackie Reid (husband, Joe), Sherri Guice (husband, John), and Thresa McKeever (husband, Brent). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Dan Reid, Sara Reid, Jessy Williams, Kimberly Turner, Keely Riggs, Cassie Robertson, Paige Cooper, Blake Hardin, Breanne Meyers, and Dylan McKeever. Additionally, he leaves behind his great-grandchildren: Sydney, Morgan, Jonathan, Joe Joe, Presley, Bailey, Kenzie, Londyn, Chance, Paisley, Huxley, Wiley, Brantley, Kinzlee, Abigale, Kaliway, Judah, Caleb, Aubrey, and his great-great-grandchild, Ember.

Joe Bob was preceded in death by his father, Joe Mitchell Burns, his mother, Maggie Davis Burns, and his brothers, Thurman Burns (wife, Wallace) and Kenny Burns (wife, Louise).

A memorial service to celebrate Joe’s life will be held at Eubanks Funeral Home in Canton, on Thursday, Nov. 30. Visitation will be held at 1 p.m., followed by the memorial service at 2 p.m. There will be no graveside service.

Eubanks Funeral Home in Canton is assisting the family with the arrangements.
