1922 – 2023

A Celebration of Life service was held for Edward Allen Vaughn, 100, of Canton on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at Grace Family Church. Bro. Jonathan Smith and Bro. Jimmy White officiated under the direction of Eubank Funeral Home.

Ed went home to the Lord on July 28, 2023, in Grand Saline. He was born in Gilmer on December 17, 1922, to A. C. Vaughn and Maudie Moore.

Ed grew up in the Latch and Gilmer area. As a young man, he went to California to do his part and help with the war effort working in the shipyards. Later, back in Texas, he became a truck driver, once honored as “The Knight of the Road” during his years of driving. He enjoyed the view and never lost the want to go no matter where, just to go. Ed started a company with his son-in-law, Armature Sales and Service. At the age of 59, Ed retired, thinking he would die young, and he wanted to enjoy his time riding horses, raising cattle, camping, and going to Marfa, Texas, where he had a nice vacation place. Ed enjoyed painting old cars, wheeling, and dealing, which meant buying and selling anything and everything. Ed married his one true love, Louise, on July 15, 1944. The couple had over 60 wonderful years together, until her passing in 2007. They were long time members of Grace Family Church in Canton. Ed loved life; he embraced every day as a gift. Ed loved the Lord, his family, and the many friends he had had through the years. He will be dearly missed.

Ed is preceded in death by his parents, A. C. and Maudie Vaughn; daughter, Carol Wood; daughter, Sandra Vaughn; siblings: Barney, Dean, Clarice and Donna.

He is survived by his daughter and son in-law, Sherry and Dwayne Dearing; grandsons, Kenneth Dearing, and wife, Samatha , Robert Dearing, Jeremy Ballew; great grandchildren, Halee Haynes and husband, John, Justin Dearing, Kennedy Dearing, Sebastian Ballew; great-great grandchildren, John Edward, Josiah and Jaylan; multitude of nieces, nephews and other family; and a host of friends.

The family would like to thank Azalea Trails Nursing Home and the wonderful staff for their loving care and kindness.
