Services for Dr. Edward Walter Rongers, 82, of Fruitvale, were held Monday, April 29, 2024, at Eubank Funeral Home in Canton with Bro. Dan Tarno officiating. Interment was in Hillcrest Cemetery in Canton.

Dr. Rongers passed away April 23, 2024, in Tyler. He was born September 14, 1941, in Gary, Indiana, to Edward and Madeline Harriet Nye Rongers.

At four years old, Eddie’s family moved to Galena Park, Texas. After graduating from high school with honors in 1959, he attended Sam Houston State University where he majored in Biology and Chemistry. In 1967, Eddie was drafted by the U.S. Army and served as Sgt. E5 Medical Specialist during the Vietnam War. After he returned from serving in the Army, he attended and graduated from the Palmer College of Chiropractic. Dr. Rongers practiced in Abilene and later opened practices in Wills Point and Greenville. During his practice in Wills Point, he met and later married the love of his life, Barbie Stuart. Eddie enjoyed fishing, hunting, and watching Westerns.

Dr. Rongers is survived by his wife, Barbie Stuart; sister, Rosemary and Bill Hardy; niece, Debbie Ruehlen; her children: Rachel and Alessandro Biondi; their children: Leo and Fiona and Allyson; niece, Michelle and Patrick Torres; their children: Zach, Josh and Adam; niece, Christina and Ted Johnson; and their children: Claire and Patrick; his in-laws: Linda Starnes, mother-in-law, Shane & Tam Starnes and family, Bonnie and Mickey Bryan and family, and Kerry Starnes and family. Eddie is preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Madeline Rongers.

Pallbearers were Shane Starnes, Justin Starnes, Clay Allen, Teddy Bass, Ronnie O’Neal and Josh Bailey.

Visitation was held Sunday, April 28 at the funeral home.
