Clinton Morrison Gober, Jr. passed away on January 6, 2024, at the age of 94, in Canton.

Clint was born on June 7, 1929, in Dallas to Clinton Morrison Gober, Sr. and Ona Mae Cleary Gober. Clint graduated from Crozier Tech High School in 1947, and then attended North Texas Agriculture College, earning a two-year certificate in Journalism. Clint was active in his high school ROTC program, and his high school and college band programs, playing the clarinet and serving as Drum Major. His biggest love was baseball, and he played throughout his high school, college, and Army years, and on many local and church league teams.

After college, Clint began his career in Dallas at Jaggars, Chiles, and Stovall Typesetting Company. In 1951, he was drafted into the United States Army, where he was assigned to Camp Chaffee, Arkansas, where he was a member of the 505th Military Police. On September 25, 1951, Clint married Effie “Louise” McMinn, daughter of Oyer and Mary McMinn of Dallas. They began married life in Fort Smith Arkansas, then returned to Dallas after his discharge from the Army. Clint spent the rest of his career working in typesetting, retiring as a plant superintendent at Southwestern Typographics. In 1971, Clint moved his family to Canton, where they lived in the Teel community. Then in 1987, he joined Louise in running Gober’s Athletic Shop. Clint enjoyed interacting with the coaches and athletes and supporting the local high school and youth league programs. After closing the store in 1995, he and Louise enjoyed traveling with friends in their RV. Their travels included being a part of the ministry to build and repair churches in different states, where they made many new friends. Clint was an active member of First Baptist Church of Canton since 1972, where he was involved in Sunday School, outreach to the home-bound, and served on several committees. He greatly enjoyed the friendship and fellowship of church life, especially playing dominoes at the Sunday School parties. Clint was preceded in death by his parents, Clinton and Ona Mae Gober, his sister, Doris Crabtree, and his wife of 67 years, Louise Gober. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, James and Dorsey Gober of Galveston; his daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Walker Brewer of Seguin; his daughter, Sandy Gober of Tyler; his daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Perry Hutcherson of Canton; his grandchildren Wendy Zurovec, Kimberly Poe, Kelly Schoenvogel, Lori Baker, and Lance Brewer, all of Seguin, and Preston Hutcherson of Dallas; his 20 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers for the service include Glenn Tarpley, Rich Hall, Roger Ward, Walker Brewer, Lance Brewer, and Preston Hutcherson.

A visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, January 12, 2024, at Eubank Funeral Home. The funeral service will be at noon Saturday, January 13, at the Eubank Funeral Chapel with Dr. Mike Roberson officiating. Interment will be in Haven of Memories. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Annie Armstrong missions fund at First Baptist Church of Canton.
