The Canton Lions Club District 2-2X met Aug. 17 at the Van Zandt Country Club with Lion President Tanya Watkins presiding. The guest speaker, Cary Hilliard, provided an update on the Van Zandt County Veteran’s Memorial & Visitors Center, which included fundraising events including an upcoming golf tournament set for Sept. 12 and the opportunity to purchase a brick to honor a veteran. The 2022 updated mission statement for the veteran’s memorial is “To create and perpetuate a Memorial that honors all Military Veterans including those of Van Zandt County, Texas. To maintain and preserve our grounds, museum, and Veterans’ contributions to the United States while providing services to Veterans-in-need. To create a positive impact and understanding of the magnitude of loss we all share in the name of freedom.”
